Review: The Angel Inn in Suffolk offers first class cuisine at an incredible price ✶✶✶✶✶
Restaurant and Hotel is ideal for a getaway.
Located in the heart of Suffolk in the beautiful village of Stoke-by-Nayland lies a very special restaurant and hotel; The Angel Inn.
We visited as a family (two children, one small dog) this February half term and fell in love with the place. This immaculate venue offers exceptional value for money, warm and friendly service, and the most stunning food. I mean, the best food we have eaten, anywhere, in a while.
It’s that good.
The Angel Inn in Suffolk: The most special place for a getaway.
Stoke-by-Nayland is a traditional chocolate-box village, which gives off ‘Vicar of Dibley’ vibes. It’s quite beautiful, and our little dog Axl adored the local walks. It’s quiet, it’s tranquil, it’s well located.
The Angel Inn itself, is one of those places where you walk in and immediately look at another and say ‘oh this is nice’. Nice is an understatement, it’s so well decorated it walks the line between gastro pub, upmarket restaurant and warm and cosy inn. Quite how it ticks all of those boxes is hard to explain, but it really does.
The multi-award winning hotel has 5 Gold Stars from the AA and it’s immediately obvious why. There are rooms above the restaurant and there’s also a separate building – we were in the latter. The rooms are immaculate and contemporary. I’d even so whilst the hotel’s website is very contemporary, it could do more to show you just how decent the rooms are. They’re really, really smart, absolutely spotless and extremely comfortable. We had bags of room and all of us loved flopping out on the large and comfy beds. Coffee and tea is provided, there’s a smart tv, loads of storage and very smart bathrooms too. We loved it.
The strongest point of The Angel Inn is the food. The Chef here deserves his weight in gold because we really did enjoy the finest cuisine, and it was the best experience we’ve had eating out in a long time. A stunning salmon pate, the most beautiful lamb liver, a gorgeous mushroom lasagne with beautiful foam, a chocolate fondant sent down from heaven – it was really, really sublime. There’s a set three course dinner menu which offers the most exceptional value. The kids shared a fish and chips, which I tried and it was melt in the mouth.
The Angel Inn gets everything right. The ambience, the music, the service, the friendly hosts, the extensive drinks menu… there’s nothing to fault. In the morning, the best, and I do mean the best cooked breakfast I have had in a long, long time. You can tell that local produce is used, it was just beautiful. And our breakfast host was so attentive as well, offering more toast, asking if the children would like extras, you just don’t encounter such high levels of service these days.
My wife enjoyed a local English Brie on soughdough toast with honey and seeds and after the first mouthful, we were googling the recipe. It was the most delicious thing.
I hope I’ve conveyed to you just how good The Angel Inn is. To give you an idea on price, in February there’s a special deal which gets you a three course dinner, breakfast and one night’s stay and it’s only £175. It’s worth every single penny. Follow the link below to check out other pricing.
The Suffolk countryside is simply beautiful. There are many fantastic towns and villages to explore, plus the Essex coast is only 40 minutes away. There is plenty to do and yet, our children were happiest when they were chilling in the hotel room or enjoying their food in the restaurant. It’s that special, and we’re hoping to book again for the Summer and for an anniversary later in the year!
It isn’t just the AA that can give it five stars, we can too. ✶✶✶✶✶
